National Focal Point
Each country that is a Party to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) names a representative to serve as the national focal point (NFP) for the Convention. This national focal point is the official contact for UNCCD issues and related correspondence. A list of national focal points is prepared and distributed during each session of the Conference of the Parties as an official document. For scientific issues related to the UNCCD, Parties select a Science and Technology Correspondent (STC) under the coordination of the national focal point. The role of STCs is to assist NFPs in scientific matters related to the implementation of the Convention by enhancing relationships, networks and establishing a dialogue with scientists and technologists at the local, national, regional and global level , as well as by measuring progress in the achievement of the strategic objectives of the 10-year strategic plan and framework to enhance the implementation of the Convention (2008-2018) and the reporting process.
