Working group convenes to discuss project activities
The working group formed for the purpose of the project implemented by the UN Environment / GEF titled „Enhanced Cross-Sectoral Land Management through Land Use Pressure Reduction and Planning“ convened on June 8, 2018 to discuss and adopt the results of the conducted soil sampling and analysis. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the following institutions: the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Serbian Environmental Protection Agency, Geological Institute of Serbia, Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia, Provinvcial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection, Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Institute of Soil Science and the Institute of Public Health of Belgrade, and the UN Environment Program.
During the meeting, the working group was presented with the soil sampling and testing results from a total of 32 industrial sites and the training provided for SEPA representatives in the development of characterization plans, as well as further plan of activities which includes preparing a publication on the contaminated sites and holding regional trainings on reporting in accordance with the new Rulebook that is expected to be adopted by the end of 2018. The working group was also informed about the newly passed Regulation on limit values of harmful and hazardous substances polluting soil, and two synergetic projects implemented, respectively, by UNIDO and WHO in cooperation with the Institute of Public Health of Serbia.
Besides informing about the ongoing activities of institutions they represent, the working group members also gave their comments and suggestions for improving individual reports on the conducted sampling and the Technical summary report, and they also had the opportunity to hear about further plans concerning two industrial sites – Zorka-non-ferrous metallurgy in Šabac and Viskoza chemical industry in Loznica.[:]
