The UN Environment Program (UNEP) and the Serbian Environment Protection Agency took part in the 2nd International and 14th National Congress of Soil Science Society of Serbia “Solutions and Projections for Sustainable Soil Management held in Novi Sad on 26-28 September 2017. The Congress that was attended by Serbia’s and the world’s leading experts in this field was organized with the aim of promoting scientific knowledge and presenting scientific achievements in the field of sustainable land use.
On this occasion, UNEP and SEPA representatives presented the jointly developed study on the management of contaminated sites in the Republic of Serbia, as one of the results of the project dubbed “Enhanced Cross-Sectoral Land Management through Land Use Pressure Reduction and Planning” implemented in Serbia. The emphasis was placed on the proper management of contaminated sites, the causes of pollution, proper rehabilitation and soil remediation, as well as the method of collecting data for the National Cadastre of contaminated sites that SEPA has been running since 2006.
SEPA additionally presented two working papers on the topics of “Soil Organic Carbon Stocks in The Republic of Serbia” and “Investigation of Potentially Contaminated Industrial sites”.
